La communauté européenne publie régulièrement des fascicules statistiques. Celui qui paraît ces jours-ci fait le point (en 8 pages) sur l’éducation en 2000/2001. On y retiendra en particulier le fait qu’en Europe, il y a une proportion croissante de diplômés en mathématiques, sciences et technologies : parmi la population âgée de 20 à 29 ans, cette proportion est la plus élevée en Irlande, en France, en Finlande et au Royaume-Uni (de 23.2 à 20 pour mille).
Cette proportion a augmenté considérablement au cours des cinq dernières années en Espagne, Autriche, Estonie, Lituanie, Pologne et République slovaque. Ces statistiques sont intéressantes au regard de la désaffection dont souffrent, en France, les cursus scientifiques en Université.
