Since then, presidents have been more likely to eat the turkey rather than give it a reprieve. A notable exception occurred in 1963, when President Kennedy, referring to the turkey given to him, said, « Let’s just keep him. » It wasn’t until the first Thanksgiving of President George H.W. Bush, in 1989, that a turkey was officially pardoned for the first time.”

Obama pardons the turkey
La video du Pardon 2009 avec Obama et ses filles n’est plus plus visible en streaming mais téléchargeable en vidéo (MP4) ou audio (MP3) avec le script complet sur le site de la Maison Blanche. La vidéo est intéressante pour voir comme Sacha et Malia ont changé, et à cause du moment où Obama fait peur à sa fille qui va toucher la dinde. Mais pour un entrainement à la CO du bac, vous pouvez selectionner l’extrait audio de 00:39 à 02:19, où les élèves A1 repéreront « turkey » et « Disneyland » et les élèves C1 ou plus auront un bonus (22/20) si ils comprennent le jeu de mots à la fin de l’extrait : « we created 4 turkeys », turkey pouvant aussi signifier : « A failure, especially a failed theatrical production or movie. »
