Or, Victor Hugo, comme Shakespeare pour les Anglais, est non seulement populaire dans son pays mais dans le monde entier. De Tokyo à Rome en passant par Rio de Janeiro et New York, quand on parle de la France, on pense à Notre-Dame de Paris, à la Tour Eiffel, à la Côte d’Azur ou à la Bretagne, mais aussi à Victor Hugo. Ce poète, le plus populaire en France, qui est une part importante de notre patrimoine, n’a pas encore son Festival. Pourtant, qui, mieux que lui se prêterait à ce type de manifestation ? » La Société des Amis de Victor Hugo, responsable de ces lignes, organise en janvier 2007 le premier « Festival Hugo et Egaux ». Au programme des représentations, des oeuvres de V. Hugo, mais aussi des animations auprès des scolaires.
