Vous avez sans doute en tête les travaux de l’équipe PROG, dont une des animatrices fut Mireille Brigaudiot, dont les ouvrages sur la langue et le langage écrit font référence.
Aujourd’hui, si elle ne fait plus partie de l’équipe, les travaux continuent, comme l’atteste la publication de l’ouvrage « Sens et code au cycle II », sous la coordination de Gilbert Ducancel (Hachette Education).
Après lecture, gageons que les enseignant-e-s de cycle II vont y retrouver ce qui a fait la richesse de la démarche PROG : une forte ambition pour l’activité intellectuelle des élèves, et un souci d’accompagner le maître (la maîtresse, beaucoup plus souvent) au plus concret de l’acte d’enseignement. Les situations décrites dans le livre ont été testées dans le concret du quotidien scolaire, par une très nombreuse équipe d’enseignants participant à la recherche.
Le titre dit beaucoup du contenu, mais ne dit rien de ce qui fait la spécificité PROG : une démarche exigeante et progressive de conquête de la production écrite, étagée sur tout le cycle. A l’heure où l’ensemble des travaux sérieux sur l’acquisition de la lecture font référence à la difficulté qu’on les enseignants à s’appuyer sur « l’encodage » pour apprendre le code écrit, cet ouvrage fait assurément partie du « top 5 » qui pourra aider les enseignant-e-s à oser se lancer, à ne pas craindre de faire produire de l’écrit des enfants qui sont encore loin de maîtriser la lecture.
On retiendra l’accent mis sur la « posture enseignante », illustrée par un slogan simple : après « VIP », c’est « être devant/être derrière » qui résume l’attitude de l’enseignant, à la fois montrant la voie et assidu au soutien.
L’approfondissement de la réflexion sur la manière d’aider les élèves à « découvrir la nature du système de l’écrit » devrait être un complément intéressant pour nombre d’enseignant-e-s de cycle II, très largement illustré par une foule d’idées d’outils concrets à mettre en oeuvre, présentés dans la dernière partie de l’ouvrage.
Le style de l’ouvrage reste conforme aux précédentes publications, comportant notamment de nombreux extraits de dialogues vécus en classe qui, s’ils ne sont pas forcément faciles à lire, rendent extrêmement concrets les problèmes rencontrés par les enseignants.
Un must, donc, à découvrir d’urgence pour tous les maîtres de cycle II qui sont persuadés qu’ils sont enseignants pour aider chaque élève « à aller du langage à la langue, pour retourner au langage ». Rien à voir avec les ambitions de M. De Robien, décidément.
